Driver of the Month: June 2023

Congratulations to our driver of the month, James Taylor and our other category winners - Chris and Duncan!

James' continuous enthusiasm and reliability earned him this well-deserved award. His dedication is evident as he drove over 6000 miles for us in April. Go you!!!

What do you love most about the job?

I enjoy driving such a wide range of vehicles whilst travelling the country and getting paid to do so.

Not to mention, some places in the UK are absolutely stunning 🤩

How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?

I always make a couple of plans for routes, at least the day before. Arriving on time for trains and buses is a huge help, and if you have a rough idea of train times, it can really help save hours on the day.

It's also worth checking local taxi companies as some smaller villages and towns may only have one bus per day.

What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?

I was selected to do a Tesla project for a couple of weeks delivering Tesla's brand new vehicles to their customers. That was fun!

Also, driving down to the beach in a convertible Mercedes and bringing back a Porsche Boxter 718 convertible was a fun day.

How many miles do you do on average a week?

I usually drive over 1,000 miles. With all the recent bank holidays and weekends this month I still managed over 6,100 miles, which is over 300 miles per day worked!

What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?

Relax. You have to enjoy your job. I don't really see it as work. It's just driving (often brand new) cars to customers that are happy to see you.

If you are stuck in traffic, do not stress about it, there is nothing you can do. However, if you are stressed, stop and let the operations team and the customers know. I've never had a late complaint for being late from either side if informed.

What drives you to succeed in this job?

I like to see the customers excited and happy to receive their car. They get really excited and have the kids jumping in and trying to figure out all the toys and gadgets!

Also, looking forward to any opportunities within the business when they become available.

Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?

Yes, I use QuickBooks weekly. It's very simple to use, and you just swipe for business or personal expenses. At the end of the tax year it provides the figures you need to fill in all the forms accurately.

It saves a massive headache going through 52 invoices at the end of the year.

What are you most excited about this year?

I'm looking forward to the summer and my 3 holidays I have booked. I love travelling and have been to almost 70 different countries.

I will not be hiring any cars whilst on my travels! 😉

What makes Engineius a special place to work?

The people make the job so much easier - we are all a team! My planning team are excellent (special mention to Bilal), helpful and all the drivers help each other when we are stuck or lost. Especially on train strike days which are becoming more frequent.

What is the best advice you can give other drivers?

  • Plan your next day before you go to bed.

  • Enjoy your job, we are lucky to drive such nice vehicles and work on our own with pretty much our own timetable.

  • Always carry a few phone cables, spare charger, food and water.

  • Never pass an opportunity to use a toilet!
