What do you do for Engineius?

I'm a User Experience Designer, which means my job is to translate what someone might need or want into something visual that can be used and brought to life through our products.

This ranges from designing the product interface itself, to making intangible ideas feel a bit more concrete.

What motivates you to do well in your role?

I think I'm mainly motivated by my desire to create things. I always loved Lego as a kid. There's something really satisfying about taking fragments of ideas and visuals, putting these small pieces together to build something whole that can be used and hopefully enjoyed. It's like being given a bunch of clues, and once they all click, you have this great little happy moment seeing them all fit together.

What playlist do you listen to in the car the most?

That's definitely a hard question because I have so many playlists, all with their own themes and personalities.

To be honest, it depends on who is in the car with me. I tend to want the playlist to match the vibe of the journey, but I guess you can't go wrong with a bit of Keane.

What do you like most about working for Engineius?

Definitely the people, shoutout to the Product and Tech team! It's a solid dynamic, because they provide me with design constraints, and I keep the team up to date on all Gen Z terminology, which I think is a fair trade 🤩

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

My favourite thing to do is just to walk A LOT. I can walk for ages with my music plugged in, and it's a big bonus if I find a spot where I'm in nature. Anywhere there's a field or forest for me to wander in is honestly the best place.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?

The most interesting thing I've seen this week is Hackney Wick, love it over there.

Describe one thing you've learnt in your role?

Because we've got such a cross-functional way of working, with various users to design for, in an industry dealing with so many processes, I've definitely learned a lot about what happens outside of design and how to contextualise everything I'm doing.

Product design is so dependent on everything happening outside of itself, and learning how to manage those factors often becomes more important than the actual design.

What’s the most useless talent you have?

Not surprising really, as I've dragged Rich, our head of Data and Edon, our Head of Product into it, but I'm a big card player. I like most games and puzzles, to be fair ♠️
