Driver of the Month - Christopher Jay

What do you love most about the job?

I love the freedom to choose what I do and when I do it. I’ve never had a job with as much flexibility as this. No two days are the same which keeps things interesting and makes it an enjoyable job.

I’ve visited places I’ve always wanted to go to (although only briefly at times) and discovered new places I would like to visit again.

How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?

Make sure you don’t over commit. There is a fine line between taking on too much and not enough work in a day. You have to make sure you plan every aspect of the day from how to get there, travel in between and how to get home.

Plan it right and you’ve done everything in your power to deliver on time and ensure that customers are satisfied!

What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?

I wouldn’t say I’ve had a best experience just yet, but I just love the variety that the job brings. One day I’ve got a 44t artic the next it’s a 10 year old Corsa.

I could be in beautiful Scotland the next in sunny Devon. They are the experiences I enjoy 🤩

How many miles do you do on average a week?

I would say on average I do 800-1000 miles a week.

What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?

No secrets, just plan everything and give yourself some wiggle room. More importantly, enjoy your day.

There is no point in being a busy fool and being stressed.

What drives you to succeed in this job?

The honest answer… the money! 🤑 Let’s be honest that’s the main reason we all work.

But I would also like to say I like a job with freedom and to be my own boss so that is a reason to succeed as I wouldn’t want to lose that privilege.

Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?

I keep a log of my jobs in a good old-fashioned diary. I reconcile them and work out a basic profit, cost and expenditure.

I know some people have spreadsheets, etc. But I just do my diary as and when I can, on the go, each day ✍️

What are you most excited about this year?

Warmer weather!

As much as I work hard, I like to chill too. I'm old before my time as my partner, and I bought a caravan to drag behind our Volvo this year, so I want to see more of this beautiful country we live in.

What makes Engineius a special place to work?

I just like the freedom it allows me to have.

The places I can visit and the people I can meet.

What is the best advice you can give other drivers?

I’m still relatively new to this so there is so much advice I could do with but all I would say is,

Plan as much as you can, and ask people for advice when you meet them. You will be surprised at how knowledgeable other drivers can be and it can save you time and money.

Be savvy with public transport, and use apps like TrainPal & TrainSplit.

Our other two winners 🎉
